Company History

Dermanaut was originally formed in 2006 because Dr. Jean Holland’s office was struggling with their paper records and realized there was a significant potential cost-benefit to an electronic record. Initially the office purchased the best available EMR product, but realized after several days of off-site training that the application simply would not work in their fast-paced dermatology clinic. Dermanaut was determined to be different.

Dedicated to making easy and intuitive software for dermatology, Jon Baugh and the rest of the Dermanaut team went into dermatology offices across the country to iteratively design a system, side-by-side with dermatologists. What Dermanaut has developed is due to feedback from hundreds of dermatologists.

Management Team

Jon Baugh – Chief Executive Officer, Interface Design

Jon Baugh helped found Dermanaut in 2006 and is the chief executive officer and lead interface designer for Dermanaut. Prior to Dermanaut, Baugh has over 10 years experience designing a variety of computer user interfaces, technology consulting, and small- business management. Mr. Baugh holds a Master of Science in Information degree from the University of Michigan, School of Information with a concentration in Information Economics, Management, and Policy. During his tenure at the School of Information he was the president of the School of Information Student Association. Additionally Mr. Baugh received his Bachelor degree from the University of Michigan with a independent concentration in Science and Technology Policy. Mr. Baugh is an eagle scout and serves as the treasurer for the Alumni Trustee Corporation for Chi Psi Fraternity on the University of Michigan campus

Most recently Mr. Baugh held the position of High-Tech Anthropologists at Menlo Innovations. At Menlo he was responsible for software design, sales and client management. His clientele include municipalities, Top 25 universities, Fortune 1000 companies, and startups.

Since launching Dermanaut Mr. Baugh has participated in Ann Arbor SPARK Boot Camp, competed in several GLEQ Business Plan Competitions (finalist for the Entrepreneurial Spirit Award in 2009), gave a Showcase Presentation to the New Enterprise Forum and received the award for Showcase Presentation of the Year, and completed the BizdomU Entrepreneurship Academy program founded by Dan Gilbert of Quicken Loans which ultimately led to two rounds of funding through the BizdomU Fund.

Fred Estabrook – Chief Technology Officer

Fred Estabrook leads the company’s software development and strategic technology solutions. Mr. Estabrook joins the company with more than 7 years of advanced software development experience in a wide variety of industries as well as significant experience in team organization and management. Mr. Estabrook holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Eastern Michigan University and is a member of the Ypsilanti Area Jaycees.

Prior to Dermanaut, Mr. Estabrook was a software engineer at Menlo Innovations, where he worked for 3 years in Agile development environment, implementing Xtreme Programming methodologies on a variety of software development projects including web based data mining applications, content management systems, and an interface for a scientific research device. His responsibilities entailed product development and planning, quality advocacy, and team assessment. During his time at Menlo Innovations, Mr. Estabrook was contracted to work on Dermanaut. In that role he established himself as a leader and senior developer on the project. Prior to his tenure with Menlo Innovations, he held various programming, development and human resource positions including a mentorship and training role with Eastern Michigan University’s Computer Science Department.

Cale White – Vice President of Client Relations

Cale White joins the Dermanaut team with over a decade of sales and management experience, in a variety of industries including retail markets. Mr. White also has technical experience in the pharmaceutical industry and is excited to bring Dermanaut to dermatologists.

Jean Holland, M.D. – Dermatologist-in-Residence

Jean Holland, M.D. is a practicing dermatologist with over 25 years clinical and managerial experience running her own dermatology clinic. As an advisor to the design and development process she provides intimate knowledge of dermatology as both a clinician and an administrator and has helped Dermanaut to quickly meet and gain trust with countless dermatologists across the country. Dr. Holland also sits on the University of Michigan Medical School Admissions Board.
